One of the most common requests I receive at Rogue Mobile Notary is for a "certified copy" of a birth, death, or marriage certificate. While these documents are essential for many legal and personal matters, it is important to understand the role of a notary in this process.  

 

​The Limitation

In the state of Oregon, notaries are strictly prohibited by law from certifying copies of vital records or any document that has been recorded with a government agency. Only the official custodian of these records—such as the Oregon Center for Health Statistics or a County Clerk’s office—has the legal authority to issue a certified copy.

​Notarized Affidavits (Copy Certification by Document Custodian): Many organizations will accept a sworn statement from you. You can write a statement declaring that the copy in your possession is a true and correct reproduction of the original. I can then witness your signature and perform a Jurat (notarized oath), which provides a high level of verification for your document.

 

​Apostille & Authentication Prep: If you are sending records overseas, you may need an Apostille. I can help ensure your supporting affidavits are notarized correctly before you submit them to the Secretary of State for final authentication.
